Orlando Pride Forward Alex Morgan Joins 100-Goal Club

Morgan 100

ORLANDO, Fla. (April 5, 2019) - On Thursday evening, Orlando Pride and U.S. Women’s National Team forward Alex Morgan scored her 100th international goal, hitting the century mark in the 14th minute against No. 6 Australia. With the goal, Morgan became the seventh American player to reach the feat joining the exclusive company of women’s soccer all-time leading scorer Abby Wambach and others including Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, Michelle Akers, Tiffeny Milbrett and Carli Lloyd.

“It feels so good. It’s been a long time coming, in terms of [goal] 99 to 100,” Morgan said following the match at Dick’s Sporting Good Park in Denver. “It’s been almost 10 years with this team and I’m so fortunate to be able to play with these women every single day. I feel so empowered to be able to be here and feel like we’re inspiring that next generation. And, as much as I love the number 100, at the end of the day this team is so much more than numbers. What I’m most looking forward to, and what I’ll be even more happy about, is when we come back with that win in France and that’s going to mean so much more than the number 100.”

Morgan scored her first career international goal on Oct. 2, 2010 against China. Since then, the 29-year-old has scored against 26 additional countries - with 63 coming on home soil and 37 on foreign ground.

The goals continue a string of strong performances for the forward, who has scored 27 goals over her last 32 appearances. The Diamond Bar, Calif. native entered 2018 with 80 goals on her resume and scored 18 goals over 19 appearances to enter 2019’s first match with 98 goals. With her team-leading season last year, Morgan was honored as both U.S. Soccer and Concacaf Female Player of the Year. Furthermore, the U.S. WNT remains undefeated in matches in which Morgan scores with a 60-0-10 all-time record.

Morgan and the Pride kickoff the Club’s fourth NWSL season on Sunday, April 14, hosting Portland Thorns FC at 5 p.m. ET at Orlando City Stadium. Single-game, season and group tickets are currently available at orlando-pride.com/tickets or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
