Marta, Camila Named to Brazil’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Squad

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 16, 2019) - With the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup less than one month away, Brazilian Women’s National Team Head Coach Oswaldo Alvarez, better known as Vadão, has named the 23 players who will represent Brazil at this year’s marquee international tournament in France. Representing the Orlando Pride on the roster are defender Camila and six-time FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year, Marta.

Camila, 24, will play in her first Women’s World Cup this summer. The defender, who plays forward for the Pride, has appeared in 10 matches for the senior national team, scoring two goals in that span, both at the 2017 Tournament of Nations. At the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, she appeared in all three matches for Brazil and recorded one assist. Camila is in her third season with the Pride and sits currently with 39 appearances, scoring four goals and adding five assists in her time with the Club.

Marta, 33, will compete in her fifth World Cup this summer. The six-time FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year has competed in 18 matches at the world’s most prestigious tournament, playing every minute of each one. She has totaled a record 15 goals in World Cup play while adding five assists. Her best performance came in 2007 when she was awarded the Golden Ball, an award given to the tournament’s most valuable player, and the Golden Boot with seven goals scored. In that same tournament, she led Brazil to a runner-up finish, the best in the nation's history. Her performance throughout that tournament led her to be named to the 2007 Women’s World Cup Best XI, an honor she also received in 2011 when she won the Silver Boot with four goals scored. Marta is in her third season with the Pride, totaling 45 appearances with 17 goals and 10 assists.

At this summer’s tournament, Brazil will face Jamaica, Australia and Italy in Group C of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Brazil will open group play against Jamaica on June 9 (9:30 a.m. ET) at Stade des Alpes. Next they will face Australia on June 13 (12:00 p.m. ET) in a contest that will feature two other Orlando Pride players in Alanna Kennedy and Emily van Egmond, who were named to The Matildas roster earlier this week. That match will take place at La Masson. Brazil will close out group play against Italy on June 18 (3:00 p.m. ET) at Stade du Hainaut. The 2019 Women’s World Cup Final will take place on July 7 in Lyon.
