The gameday post for this Saturday’s matchup with the San Jose Earthquakes features a vivid, multicolor Lion painted with acrylic’s by local artist German Lemus.

Lemus describes his unique style as Urban Expressionism.

“My color pallet is very wide and draw a lot of peoples eye with the the range I paint with,” said Lemus. “I use vivid and even neon colors sometimes depending on the piece.”

The Lion was created through a pretty extensive process.

“It's done by building layers, start with the cooler base colors (blues, purples shadows) and then work mid tones in, and then highlights. After that I work my way back down through all 3 levels like a pyramid, and do that over about 2-3 times until I feel the art is complete.”

Lemus was born in Honduras and moved to Miami when he was 10. He eventually moved to Orlando to join members of his family. He has played a big part in the growing art culture in the city.

“Orlando is in a pioneering phase I feel like, and it's great to be able to instill the idea of positive expression in the local youth and community.”

You can see Lemus’ other work on display at the Fusion Gallery at the Orlando Science Center (June 2- August 7th), 7-8 pieces at Aloft downtown, City Arts Factory, and his personal studio in the Fashion Square Mall called Culture Xchange.

This week’s poster will be available on gameday at The Den inside Orlando City Stadium as well as merchandise kiosks around the concourse.
