LOUISVILLE, Ky. (August 26, 2017) â In the second match of a two-game road trip, Orlando City B (8-6-11, 35 points) defeated Louisville City FC (13-5-5, 44 points) 3-0 Saturday at Louisville Slugger Field. Michael Cox earned a brace to mark his first two goals of the season. Goalkeeper Jake Fenlason earned his first professional shutout in his second start of the season as OCB extends its unbeaten streak to 11 games.
âIâm proud of the boys tonight to earn a fantastic three points on the road. Michael Cox took his two goals incredibly well. Jake Fenlason made some excellent saves,â Lions Head Coach Anthony Pulis said. âThree-nil probably flattered us a little bit; Louisville had a lot of the ball tonight but we defended well. We knew they were going to put us under pressure, which we dealt with well. Now itâs important that we donât get too carried away because weâve got a huge game on Thursday against Bethlehem.â
One week after earning a draw at then-Eastern Conference leader Charlotte Independence, Orlando City B shutout current Eastern Conference leader Louisville City FC.
Cox scored his first goal of the season in the 15th minute when he dashed past Louisvilleâs last defender and slotted the ball across the face of goal and off the far post. Cox finished his brace with a left-footed screamer into the top right corner in the 27th. TimbĂł picked up his second goal of the season with a clinical header off the Lionsâ first corner of the night in the 53rd minute.
Fenlason made an impactful second appearance for OCB, his first start since June 14, making eight saves and helping the Lions earn their 10th clean sheet of the season. Orlando City Development Academy product Aaron Smith was the backup goalkeeper.
âI thought [Fenlason] was excellent,â Pulis added. âHe was probably a little bit nervous before the game, which is to be expected but Jakeâs a fantastic kid. He trains really, really hard every day. The attitude that he brings to the group is first-class and I was delighted for him tonight that he played so well and he got a shutout. He deserves it for the work he puts in every day.â
The win extends OCBâs own Club record unbeaten streak to 11 games. OCB has now won three of its last four matches and has seven clean sheets over the streak. OCB moves into sixth place, three points behind the Rochester Rhinos.
The match featured First Team Players PC, Conor Donovan, Seb Hines, Rafael Ramos and Pierre Da Silva on the starting lineup.
The Lions return to Orlando City Stadium to host Bethlehem Steel FC on Thursday, Aug. 31. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
