Gold Cup Final Set: USA vs. Jamaica

gold cup 2017 finals set

And then there were two. The United States will take on Jamaica in the 2017 Gold Cup Final set to be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA on Wednesday night.

Head over to the Lion’s Pride official watch party to see the USMNT attempt to claim their sixth Gold Cup title.

The Americans will look at this Final as not only a ticket to Russia 2018, but a chance to enact some revenge.

In 2015, Jamaica became the first Caribbean team to beat the USMNT on home soil since 1968. The ‘Reggae Boyz’ triumphed 2-1 over the U.S. in the semis of the 2015 Gold Cup.

This weekend’s semi-final matches saw both Jamaica and the USMNT earn shutouts against their opponents. Tim Howard (Colorado Rapids) and Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union) made some stellar saves to help push their teams to victory. With two of Major League Soccer’s elite goalkeepers as the last lines of defense, it may take something special to break through in Wednesday’s Final.

The USMNT beat Costa Rica 2-0 in their semi-final match; Jamaica upset Mexico by a score of 1-0. Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey scored second half goals to seal the win over Bryan Ruiz and the Costa Ricans who made a name for themselves at the 2014 World Cup. Mexico went scoreless for the second consecutive match and were ousted by a Kemar Lawrence free kick strike in the 88th minute.

With his goal, Clint Dempsey tied Landon Donovan for the most goals (57) scored for the USMNT. Wednesday’s Final could be the ideal situation for Dempsey to become the solo leader with a goal against Jamaica.
