Traveling Supporters' Guide | Atlanta

TSG Atlanta 2

Orlando City looks to even out the series with Atlanta United on Saturday when they travel back up to Georgia for the second time this season. If you didn’t make the trip up the first time or you’re paying another visit make sure to check out these spots during your stay:

The Venue

Atlanta United moved into their new digs, Mercedes Benz Stadium, since the last time we paid them a visit. They still play in a football stadium nonetheless, but it’s a big upgrade from Bobby Dodd. The one perk they have is the 1,264 beer taps that are dispersed around the stadium.

The stadium has a maximum capacity of 70,000, but for most matches it’s lowered to 42,500 except when they play us because #rivalry. They “currently have the largest supporters section in the league” that are available to Terminus Legion, Footie Mob, The Faction and other groups too bad they sit about a mile away from the pitch.

Directions:
A city-wide, bus, rail, and paratransit system with to Mercedes-Benz Stadium is available to you. When riding MARTA to/from Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Matchday, please note that the closest MARTA station is the GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center Station. This station will drop you off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s front door.

Things To Do

SunTrust Park
Mercedes Benz isn’t the only new stadium in town, the Atlanta Braves moved into their new home earlier this season. Go check it out as they host the New York Mets for a three game series.

Brewery Tours
Whatever type of beer you fancy, Atlanta is sure to have you covered. So pick your poison a take a tour(s) to see where the magic happens. Some of my recommendations would be: SweetWater Brewing Company, Orpheus Brewing, Red Brick Brewing and Second Self Beer Company.

World of Coca-Cola
According to the FDA, we’re all going to die of diabetes anyway, so you might as well celebrate Atlanta’s thick, syrupy blood by going straight to the heart that feeds the city’s financial arteries. For extra fun, ask your tour guide what they do in Rahway, New Jersey.

Bars and Restaurants

Der Biergarten
(This was on the last Atlanta traveling supporters guide, but I’m putting it on here again because it really is that good!)
Drinking beer out of a stein on a beer garden roof in Downtown ATL has crazy cultural benefits, starting with the buzz that results from all that German beer you’re getting in one vessel. Will you fail at pronouncing the names of many of these Reinheitsgebot-approved brews? Absolutely. Will that be OK? Absolutely.

The Varsity
It's been in business since 1928, and there is arguably no more famous indigenous Atlanta institution than The Varsity. Sure, you can get chili cheese dogs at many places, but The Varsity has the... um, cheapest? Yes, but it's also pretty good, especially with thick-cut onion rings and The Varsity's signature Frosted Orange drink.

Buckhead Saloon
Any and every college or pro team fan comes to this high-energy watering hole to watch their boys win, lose, triumph, or choke. With sports on the TV’s, a large patio, music and an American menu, you can’t go wrong.
