Everything you need to know for the Lions' semifinal match in Leagues Cup in "The Road Ahead":

Milestones

- Martín Ojeda is one goal contribution away from matching Facundo Torres’ Orlando City career record of 72 in all competitions.

- Ojeda’s next goal will tie him with Nani for third all-time in Orlando City history at 31. Ojeda is already second in club history in assists, six away from matching Mauricio Pereyra’s club record of 47.

- Ojeda’s next goal, his 18th of 2025, will also match Cyle Larin’s 2015 season for the second-highest scoring season in club history. Ojeda is three goals away from tying Facundo Torres’ club record 20-goal haul from 2024.

- César Araújo is two appearances away from 150 for Orlando City in all competitions.

Stats & Storylines

- Orlando City heads into one of its biggest games ever on Wednesday night, taking on archrival Inter Miami in the semifinals of the 2025 Leagues Cup. At stake – a trip to Sunday’s final, a guaranteed slot in the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup, and ultimate bragging rights in the Florida Derby.

- While the Lions came up short with a heavily rotated side on Saturday night in Nashville, Orlando did see a few notable moments from the game. Summer signing Adrián Marín made his City debut, going the full 90 minutes, while Nico Rodríguez made his first MLS start. Luis Muriel scored his ninth regular season goal and twelfth in all competitions.

- Martín Ojeda did not appear against Nashville, meaning his streak of 12 consecutive MLS regular season matches with a goal contribution remains intact. However, one historic streak did come to an end – Iván Angulo did not appear in an MLS match (regular season or playoffs) for the first time since September 2022, ending a run of 112 consecutive league appearances for the reliable Colombian.

- The Lions managed a 2-0-2 record with a +6 goal difference in four games against Mexican sides in the 2025 Leagues Cup, most recently holding reigning Liga MX champions Toluca scoreless in the quarterfinals before advancing on penalties thanks to Pedro Gallese’s two-way heroics. Martín Ojeda leads the way with 3g/3a for Orlando City in Leagues Cup, while Luis Muriel has three goals from his first half hat trick against Necaxa. Iván Angulo (1g/2a), Marco Pašalić, and Rodrigo Schlegel have also found the back of the net in the tournament.

- Win or lose in Fort Lauderdale, the Lions will be headed to the west coast for Sunday’s action due to Leagues Cup seeding. LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders match up in the other semifinal, kicking off from Carson at 10:45 p.m. ET. While the trophy will be on the line in the final, the third-place game is massively important as well, functioning as a CONCACAF Champions Cup playoff with the winner earning the third and final slot on offer from Leagues Cup.

- Leagues Cup has wreaked havoc on Orlando City’s schedule, moving the Vancouver home game from August 30 to October 11 and setting up a five-game, month-long road swing for the Lions. Orlando will play five consecutive away matches in all competitions through next month’s tilt against D.C. United at Audi Field, not hosting a game again until September 20 against Nashville SC.

Meet the opponent: Inter Miami CF

- Orlando has destroyed Miami twice already in 2025, blowing the Herons away 3-0 back in May with Lionel Messi on the pitch and then blasting them 4-1 at home on August 10. Luis Muriel has been a particular thorn in Miami’s side, notching 3g/1a across the two games. Marco Pašalić scored in each match while Martín Ojeda added 1g/1a in the August game.

- Miami reached this point thanks to a nervy 2-1 quarterfinal win over Tigres UANL last week, with Luis Suarez converting two penalties, the second of which was given late in the game via VAR. The Herons won the 2023 edition of Leagues Cup, knocking Orlando out of the competition along the way thanks to a controversial penalty decision.

- Lionel Messi has featured just once over Miami’s past five games, playing 45 minutes off the bench against the LA Galaxy on August 16. Messi came off injured early in Miami’s second Leagues Cup match and has not played in either of the Herons’ last two matches, the Tigres win and a 1-1 draw at D.C. United at the weekend. Messi has 25g/13a in 32 appearances in all competitions this season. Jordi Alba also did not travel to D.C. as he recovers from a knock suffered against Tigres.

- While Messi and Alba’s status for Wednesday is unclear, we do know Miami will be without one prominent former Barcelona star – head coach Javier Mascherano. The longtime Liverpool and Barca defender is set to serve a one-match suspension after being sent off during the Tigres match.
