We should have known Daryl Dike wouldn’t miss a penalty.
Orlando City’s new spot-kick taker saw his initial effort saved by Columbus Crew goalkeeper Eloy Room, but after video review, it was determined that Room moved off his line early. Dike made no mistake on the retake, scoring his third penalty in as many tries and earning Heineken Man of the Match honors.
Dike is now up to eight goals in 16 games this season, equaling his total from his breakout 2020 campaign. Dike has scored 20 goals in 46 matches in the 2021 calendar year between Orlando City, Barnsley F.C. and the United States Men’s National Team.
Dike rounded out his night by taking a team-high three shots, participating in nine duels and adding a clearance on the defensive end.
