Pride in the W-League | Ubogagu Leads Brisbane to Victory

Brisbane Roar FC 1, Newcastle Jets 0 (recap / highlights)
Pride forward Chioma Ubogagu led Brisbane Roar to its first victory over Newcastle Jets since 2014, scoring the game’s only goal in the 56th minute. Ubogagu’s second half goal proved to be enough as the Jets held Brisbane scoreless and secured the three points. Pride players Carson Pickett and Emily van Egmond each played all 90 minutes for their respective teams.


Melbourne City 1, Adelaide United 1 (recap / highlights)
A late goal in stoppage time denied Melbourne City a victory over undefeated Adelaide United on Saturday resulting in a 1-1 draw. Houston Dash midfielder Kyah Simon opened up the scoring in the second half, giving City the lead with a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Down a goal late in the game, Adelaide United found the needed equalizer in the 97th minute when Michelle Heyman dummied a ball on the top of the box for Georgia Campagnale to strike lower left corner, tying the game.


Melbourne Victory 2, Western Sydney 1 (recap / highlights)
Melbourne Victory now sit atop the W-League standings after a 2-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers. Victory had a dominant first half finding both of its goals in the first 45 minutes. Natasha Dowie notched a marker in the 13th minute after finishing a through ball from Emily Gielnik while Pride midfielder Christine Nairn found the second of the match, cleaning up a rebound in the 39th minute. Western Sydney responded in the 73rd minute, halving Victory’s lead with a Kylie Ledbrook score. Dani Weatherholt played another 90 minute match for Victory, as the Pride midfielder has yet to miss a minute in her maiden season in Australia.


Canberra United 2, Sydney FC 0 (recap / highlights)
Canberra United earned its second win of the season, shutting out Sydney FC 2-0. Rhoda Mulaudzi finished a rebound off a free kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time in the first half to give Canberra the lead then saw three points secured in the 60th minute off a Karly Roestbakken goal. Alanna Kennedy earned her second start of the season, finishing with one shot and a game-high 67 passes over 90 minutes.
