ORLANDO, Fla. (May 19, 2022) — The Orlando Pride has agreed to new contract terms with goalkeeper Erin McLeod, keeping the Canadian international with the Club through the 2023 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season, it was announced today. McLeod, a highly-decorated veteran of the game, has been with the Pride since the 2020 season.

“Erin is an integral part of our club and we're excited to be able to extend her time in Orlando. She is a fantastic athlete, a strong leader, and a pleasure to work with on a daily basis,,” said Orlando Pride General Manager Ian Fleming. “Erin exemplifies what it means to be a professional. Her positive influence and support of her teammates are traits that we want to be the foundation of what we're building, and having her as a member of our Pride for an additional year was an easy decision for everyone involved.”

McLeod has started each match of the 2022 regular season for the Pride so far, helping lead the team to its first victory of the year in the Pride’s 1-0 victory over expansion side Angel City FC on May 8, in what served as her first clean sheet of the season. Just a week later, the netminder put together another impressive shift between the pipes, tallying six saves in the Pride’s 2-2 draw against the Kansas City Current.

Internationally, McLeod remains as one of the most-accomplished goalkeepers to ever play the game. The 39-year-old has appeared in 120 matches, having been named to four FIFA Women’s World Cup and three Olympic rosters for Canada. Last year, she helped the Canadians secure the Gold medal at the recent 2020 Olympic Games, a first for the country, as well as the Bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic Games. She became just the 12th women’s footballer to make her 100th appearance for Canada on Nov. 24, 2014.

At the club level, McLeod began her career with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the USL W-League in 2004. She has also had stints with the Washington Freedom (2009), Swedish side Dalsjӧfors GoIF (2011-12), Chicago Red Stars (2013), Houston Dash (2014-15), Swedish side FC Rosengård (2016-17) and Swedish side Växjӧ DFF (2018-19) before joining the Pride.
