ORLANDO, Fla. – Jan. 19, 2016 – Orlando City SC selected midfielder Antonio Matarazzo (48th overall) and Tobenna Uzo (68th overall) in the third and fourth rounds of the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft. Matarazzo and Uzo join Richie Laryea (Akron) and Hadji Barry (UCF), who were previously drafted by the Lions in the first round.
Matarazzo joins Orlando after a successful four-year career in the Ivy League with Columbia University. In his senior season, Matarazzo was named to the All-Ivy League second team – the third all-conference honor in his career – as he finished second on the team in minutes (1,410).
In four seasons with Columbia, Matarazzo featured in 49 matches – playing a crucial role for his team in both midfield and defense. Prior to attending Columbia University, Antonio was a three-year letter-winner at Fair Lawn High School (N.J.) and a two-time Bergen County All-League selection.
A six-foot-four striker, Tobenna Uzo contributed heavily to Coastal Carolina’s successful 2015 campaign in his only season with the team. During his senior season, Uzo finished first on the team in points (18), scoring six goals and producing six assists in 18 matches played.
Prior to transferring to Coastal Carolina, Uzo appeared in and started 12 matches for Houston Baptist University in his junior season – ranking second on the team with nine points after scoring three goals and recording three assists. In his sophomore season with Houston, Uzo finished second in the conference with 11 goals and 22 points – marking the most goals since the program’s resurrection in 2006.
