ORLANDO, Fla. (July 28, 2025) – Orlando City SC today announced key updates to its sporting department, naming Javier Carrillo as Head of Player Development and Jose Campos as Academy Director. Campos steps into the role previously held by Carrillo, who transitions into a new position focused on advancing the Club’s developmental pipeline. Additionally, the Club has promoted Joe Schuchmann to Sr. Director of Soccer Operations, renewed Head Scout Felipe Lema and hired Hugo Rios-Neto as Manager, Analytics & Insights.
“These personnel moves reflect our continued commitment to building an elite developmental and scouting structure at Orlando City,” said Ricardo Moreira, Orlando City SC General Manager & Sporting Director. “Javier has played a pivotal role in developing homegrowns, and his new position will allow him to deepen that impact across all levels of the Club. Jose’s scouting expertise and leadership will be key as we continue to grow our Academy’s reach and effectiveness in producing First Team players. Joe has been a cornerstone of our operations team for years, and his promotion recognizes the critical role he plays in ensuring our sporting and administrative processes run smoothly, from compliance and matchday protocols to player transactions and budget management. Felipe’s renewal ensures continuity in a scouting department that has helped bring in some of the most impactful players in our Club’s history. We’re also excited to welcome Hugo, whose data-driven approach will enhance our decision-making and performance analysis across the board. Together, this group strengthens every link in our player pathway and sporting operations, from youth development to First Team success.”
In his newly created role, Carillo will report directly to Moreira and focus on the individual development of players across all of Orlando City’s teams. He originally joined the Club in 2019 as Assistant Academy Director and head coach of the U-17 squad. Under Carillo’s leadership, the U-17s captured the inaugural MLS NEXT Cup in 2021, while the U-18 side is coming off winning the 2025 Generation adidas Cup. He holds a USSF A License and earned his Elite Formation Coaching License from the French Football Federation in 2022. Last week, Carrillo served as head coach of Team East at the 2025 MLS NEXT All-Star Game, which featured two Orlando City academy products—Gustavo Caraballo and Dylan Judelson—on its roster. Since Carrillo’s arrival in Orlando, 13 Academy products have signed First Team contracts, including U.S. international and 2025 MLS All-Star Alex Freeman.
Campos, who joined Orlando City in 2024 as Academy Lead Scout, now steps into the role of Academy Director. In this position, Campos will oversee all Academy operations and continue to build a robust development pathway from the youth ranks through Orlando City B and into the First Team. A native of Seville, Spain, Campos brings over a decade of combined sports management and talent identification experience to the role and will work to ensure the Academy remains a cornerstone of the Club’s long-term success.
Schuchmann has been with Orlando City since the Club’s inaugural MLS season in 2015, starting as a Team & Event Operations intern. Over the years, he steadily advanced through the organization, taking on increasing responsibilities in administrative and operational roles. Most recently, he served as Director of Soccer Operations, a position he has held since 2023.
Lema originally joined Orlando City in 2021 as Scout, South America, before being promoted to Lead Scout in 2023 and his current role as Head Scout in 2024. Under his tenure, Orlando City has brought in several key players, including former winger Facundo Torres—the Club’s all-time leading goal scorer—current midfielder MartĂn Ojeda and forwards Marco PaĹźalić and Ramiro Enrique, among others.
Rios-Neto joins the Club as Manager, Analytics and Insights, where he will lead the development of a unified analytics philosophy and operating model to support team performance and player acquisition. His role includes delivering high-quality insights to technical departments, managing internal and third-party data sources, auditing performance decision-making processes and researching new statistical methods and technologies to enhance the Club’s analytical capabilities.
