Orlando City SC acquires No. 2 overall selection in 2023 MLS SuperDraft

ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 21, 2022) - Orlando City SC has acquired the No. 2 overall selection in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas, set for later this afternoon at 5 p.m. ET, from D.C. United. In exchange, City has traded defender Ruan.

“Ruan has been an incredibly important member of our project with the Club over the last four years and we want to thank him for all of his hard work and effort,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “We wish him nothing but the very best and look forward to seeing all he achieves in this next chapter.”

Ruan joined the Lions on loan ahead of the 2019 MLS campaign following two seasons in Brazil’s Série B. Since then, the Rio de Janeiro native has made 106 starts in 117 appearances for City across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing 15 assists in that time.

The 27-year-old defender signed a contract extension ahead of the 2022 season through the end of 2023.
