ORLANDO, Fla. (July 30, 2025) – Orlando City SC (0-0-1, 1 point) kicked off its 2025 Leagues Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Pumas UNAM (0-0-1, 2 points) on Wednesday night at Inter&Co Stadium. The match was followed by a penalty shootout, from which the Lions earned one point. Orlando will look to rebound on Saturday against Atlas FC in their second Phase One match.

The Lions struck early, with defender Rodrigo Schlegel finding the back of the net in the fifth minute off a corner kick from Martín Ojeda. It was Schlegel’s first goal since September 2024 and the earliest goal in Orlando City’s Leagues Cup history. Ojeda’s assist marked his 14th of the season and tied him with former Lion Facundo Torres for the club record of 27 goal contributions in a single season across all competitions.

Pumas equalized in the 80th minute when midfielder Coco Carrasquilla broke through the Orlando defense and slotted a shot into the far corner. The match remained level through stoppage time, sending it to penalties.

Orlando City remains at home in the City Beautiful and will host Atlas FC this Saturday, August 2, at 6 p.m. ET at Inter&Co Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, Apple TV+, Univisión, and TUDN. Later that evening, Pumas UNAM will face Atlanta United FC at 9 p.m. ET, also at Inter&Co Stadium.

Scoring Summary:

5’ Rodrigo Schlegel (Martín Ojeda) – ORL 1, PUM 0

80’ Coco Carrasquilla (Piero Quispe) – ORL 1, PUM 1

Head Coach Oscar Pareja:

“The first thing is the overall analysis of the game. It gave us a sense that we had a good first half and were very competitive. We didn’t have complete control, but we had ideas. Not just the first goal, I think we had much more volume in attack. That gave us the feeling we could build on it in the second half. In the second half, after 67 or 68 minutes, [Pumas] started pushing, and we lost control of the ball. We started using long balls, and then we couldn’t find a way out of that prison. After that, it seems like it’s not a coincidence, it keeps happening. We can’t close out a game with more personality, and that’s why I’m frustrated now. We have to look at the whole game. It was very competitive against a good rival, and the boys did a lot of good things.”
