Key Transactions

NJ/NY Gotham FC had a fairly active offseason, bolstering their roster in what many pundits have indicated as a “win now” mentality. In addition to the blockbuster trade with the Pride that saw Gotham add Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger, the team added USWNT favorite Kristie Mewis who had strong seasons in her time with the Houston Dash. In addition to Harris, the goalkeeper pool includes Michelle Betos, who was brought in after the side traded gold medalist Kailen Sheridan to San Diego Wave FC.

Recent Form

Gotham comes into the midweek with one point after a 1-1 draw against defending NWSL Champion Washington Spirit. Kristie Mewis scored the team’s lone goal in that match, a first half penalty. Gotham opened up their 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup campaign with a 2-0 loss to the North Carolina Courage.

Who’s Hot

The Pride attack will have to contend with a force of a defensive player on Gotham’s backline. Defender Caprice Dydasco was named as NWSL’s Defender of the Year in 2021 and recently signed a new contract prior to the start of the 2022 season. She appeared in every match last year for Gotham FC, playing over 2000 minutes.

Head-to-Head

The Pride hold a 6-5-4 record against Gotham all time in all competitions, with a 3-3-2 record at home. The two sides met three times in 2021, each team taking one win apiece. The last meeting ended in a 3-2 loss for the Pride at Exploria Stadium in October 2021.

Rasmussen University Fun Fact

With Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger set to make their first return to Exploria Stadium since being traded to Gotham FC, the Pride will face off against former captains for the first time in Club history. Orlando will face Alex Morgan, the only other captain in Club history beside current captain Marta, for the first time on August 13 in San Diego.
