The Current had a very successful 2022 NWSL Draft, signing all four of their draftees to contracts before the beginning of the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup. Midfielder Chardonnay Curran, defender Jenna Winebrenner and defender Izzy Rodriguez have all played in both of Current’s regular season matches so far. Forward Elyse Bennett has started in one match this season.

Kansas City is coming off a 2-0 loss at home to the Houston Dash. The Current controlled nearly 60% of possession and recorded 15 shots with five on goa,l compared to nine shots with four on target for the Dash. Despite leading in stats, Kansas City gave up a penalty kick just before the half that forward Rachel Daly converted. Towards the end of regulation the Current had a few quality chances, but were unable to find the back of the net and allowed the Dash to put one more away during stoppage time courtesy of midfielder Bri Visalli.

Hamilton started every match for the Current and scored five goals on nine shots on target in 580 minutes played, putting her third in the league. In the regular season, Hamilton has played 115 minutes and has taken one shot.

Head-to-Head

Kansas City joined the league as an expansion team in 2021. In two matches last campaign, the Pride came away victorious in both. The first meeting came on May 30, ending in a 1-0 victory for the Pride at home. In the second meeting the Pride traveled to Legends Field for a match that saw a pair of first half goals scored in stoppage time. The Current struck first through forward Mariana Larroquette, followed just a few minutes later by Pride forward Sydney Leroux. The Pride held Kansas scoreless in the second half while tallying two more goals of their own, leading to a 3-1 victory.

In the last match the Pride faced off against the Current, Pride forward Sydney Leroux’s brace made for an interesting statistic. Her first goal was scored 55 minutes into the match at the 45+10-minute mark due to a lengthy stoppage time in the first half. Her second came after halftime at the 49-minute mark, making her first goal unofficially later into the game than her second.
