Cohesion Key For Pride’s Recent Offensive Explosion

Pride Cohesion

The Orlando Pride came into a huge game on Saturday against Sky Blue FC and came away with the biggest win in club history. The 5-0 win not only signified the most goals scored by the Orlando Pride in team history, but it also was a culmination of the recent run of form for the team. In their last five games, including last night, the Pride have scored 14 goals, including eight in back-to-back matches.

“We’re starting to get players familiar with each-other and playing with each-other,” Head Coach Tom Sermanni said after the match, “Now, we have got great players that are looking a lot more cohesive so when we get both of those things together, we will create chances and the school goals and when you've got players like Alex, when she gets on a roll and she’s starting to get on a roll, she will score goals. She's one of those kind of players and and Marta as well. So we've got a mix of that, of us making better decisions, more cohesion and our chief goal scorers are actually on goal-scoring form.”

Speaking of goal-scoring form, Marta hit double digits in goals scored on the season, with 11, after scoring her brace last night. She also notched her fifth assist on the season, making her second in the league in goals and assists. Alex Morgan also notched a brace, scoring her fourth and fifth goals in the match. With the offense clicking on all cylinders and only six games to go, the Pride have picked the perfect time to become a well-oiled goal scoring machine.

The Pride hit the road this coming weekend to take on the Boston Breakers. Orlando currently sits in playoff position, two points ahead of the Seattle Reign who have a game-in-hand.
