Brek Shea Return A Possibility Against Kansas City On Sunday

Brek Back

Orlando City midfielder Brek Shea could make his return to the Orlando Citrus Bowl against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday night. Shea suffered a sports hernia back in June; an injury that required surgery. After three months of rehab and tough training, Shea could potentially see the pitch this weekend.

While speaking to reporters on Friday, Orlando City head coach Adrian Heath gave an update on Shea’s progress, “Brek is coming along very well. I’m looking forward to getting him into the team.” When asked specifically about the possibility of Shea playing this weekend, Heath continued, “He will come into the thoughts this weekend. We will see how he reacts [in training]. We’re monitoring his training every day, and seeing what his reaction is the following day.”

Shea was an integral part of Orlando City’s lineup before he was lost due to injury. The United Stated National Team player started in every match for which he was available up until his injury occurred. Shea split time between left back and left attacking midfielder. His last appearance for the Lions was June 24th against the Colorado Rapids.

With six games left in the season, Shea’s potential return is coming at a pivotal time to give Coach Heath more options in the attack. The Lions showdown with Sporting Kansas City is at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday night at the Orlando Citrus Bowl.
