MLS is Back Group Play is complete for City and their opponent is confirmed for Saturday at 8:00 pm ET, the Montreal Impact. The Impact enter the Round of 16 coming off one win and two losses. Not exactly convincing. Let's take a look at City's latest opponents:
Key Transactions and Player News
Montreal made some big changes this offseason. Arguably the biggest was appointing Thierry Henry as Manager after his time with Monaco.
The noise-making on-field acquisitions this offseason were Victor Wanyama joining from Premier League side Tottenham, Zachary Brault-Guillard from Lyon, Orji Okwonkwo on loan from Bologna.
The loss everybody was talking about was that of Ignacio Piatti. The Argentine playmaker left after six seasons in Montreal with 66 goals and 35 assists to his name.
Team Form
Before the COVID stoppage, the Impact began the season with a 2-1 win and 2-2 draw. Group play wasn't as productive with a 0-1-2 record and a -1 goal differential. Montreal needed a 1-0 victory against D.C. in the last match to scrape through to the knockouts.
Head-to-Head
All-time the Lions are 4-6-2 against Montreal. In 2019 Montreal took the first meeting with a 3-1 win in Orlando and the Lions responded at Stade Saputo with a 3-0 win.
Rasmussen College Fact
Nani scored his 100th career goal from the penalty spot against the Impact on June 1st, 2019 in the previously mentioned 3-0 win.
