Pride in the W-League: Round 10 Recaps

This weekend in the 10th round of the Westfield W-League, four members of the Orlando Pride took the field, going unbeaten on the weekend. Pride defender Alanna Kennedy and Sydney FC took on Orlando teammate Carson Pickett and the Brisbane Roar to open the round on Thursday in a match that resulted in a scoreless draw. 


Also in action representing were midfielder Emily van Egmond and forward Claire Emslie. Finding the back of the net for the second week in a row, van Egmond earned herself a spot on the W-League Team of the Round, now having received such honor in back-to-back weeks. 



Thursday, January 16th:


Sydney FC 0, Brisbane Roar 0
The 10th round of the W-League opened up on Thursday with a scoreless draw between Sydney FC and the Brisbane Roar. Pride defenders Alanna Kennedy and Carson Pickett each played the entirety of the match for their respective sides, both serving as the passing leaders for their team in the contest. Kennedy led the Sky Blues with 65 passes, while Pickett registered 75 passes for the Roar.


Saturday, January 18th:


Melbourne City 2, Newcastle Jets 0
On Saturday, Melbourne City extended their unbeaten run to nine matches with a 2-0 home victory over the Newcastle Jets. Emily van Egmond got on the score sheet for the second week in a row, scoring the final goal of the afternoon for her fifth finish of the season. The Matildas’ midfielder logged 80 minutes in the match, with Claire Emslie playing the entirety of the contest for City. In van Egmond’s 80 minutes on the field, she produced 103 touches and 87 passes, in addition to creating three goal-scoring chances to earn Team of the Week honors.
