ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 20, 2019) - Orlando City SC has named Club Academy Director Marcelo Neveleff as the newest head coach for Orlando City B, it was announced today. Neveleff will maintain his role in overseeing the Club’s development pyramid while serving at the helm for its United Soccer League (USL) League One side.
“We are very excited for Marcelo to take on this important role with Orlando City B. He brings a wealth of experience to the table having served as a coach, academy director and a scout throughout his career. We also know his history working with Oscar [Pareja] will be very valuable to the Club,” Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi said. “With all of his experience and knowledge of the soccer culture here in Florida, we think this is a perfect fit for the long-term vision for Orlando City.”
Neveleff joined the Club in May of this year from the New England Revolution, where he had served as the first team assistant coach since 2017. During his time in New England, Neveleff worked with U.S. Soccer as both a technical advisor for the Boys’ Development Academy and as an assistant for the U-20 Men’s National Team. In 2017, he was part of a staff that helped lead the U-20s to win the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
Prior to his time in New England, Neveleff collaborated with Pareja when the new Lions’ manager was with FC Dallas and Neveleff was the Head Coach of Andromeda FC, a former youth club based out of Plano, Texas.
“I’ve known Marcelo for many years, dating back to when we used to work closely in Texas. Since then, we’ve continued a strong relationship and communicated often to exchange ideas, so I know we share the same vision and philosophies for our players and the Club,” Orlando City SC Head Coach Oscar Pareja said. “I’m very excited and looking forward to being able to work with Marcelo again.”
A USSF “A” licensed coach, Neveleff served as the technical director of Weston FC from 2009-15, a U.S. Soccer Development Academy and one of the marquee youth clubs in South Florida. Throughout his tenure, he earned U.S. Soccer Academy Coach of the Year honors in 2010-11 for his efforts in developing both the club’s boys and girls youth programs.
Orlando City B will begin its second season in the USL’s League One during 2020. As previously announced, the side will be based out of the Club’s new training complex at Osceola Heritage Park - alongside the MLS team and Development Academy teams - and will play its matches at the 5,400 seat stadium located on the grounds.
