With Orlando City headed to Houston this weekend we know that there will be supporters in tow. It might be a rainy weekend with Tropical Depression Imelda still looming, so stay safe and have fun.
The Houston Dynamo play in BBVA Stadium in downtown Houston. The soccer specific stadium was opening in 2012 and seats 22,039. You can access the stadium via Houston’s METRORail light rail system, which may be the way to go with some flooding possible in town this weekend.
Things to Do
Johnson Space Center
I’m a big space nerd, so of course this is first on the list. If you’ve seen everything that Kennedy Space Center has to offer, you’ll find some new treasures at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. They have an incredible collection of NASA artifacts such as the Apollo 17 capsule, Mercury 9’s “Faith 7”, Gemini V, and even the prototype of the Lithium Hydroxide Canister built to save the Apollo 13 mission.
The Museum of Fine Arts
Located in Houston’s Museum district, the Museum of Fine Arts is a perfect place to escape the rain. One of their current exhibits, Icons of Style, looks like a must see. It features a look at the century of fashion photography featuring portraits of Beyoncé, David Bowie, local star James Harden, Audrey Hepburn, and more. Tickets are $23 for adults and children get in free.
Art Car Museum
Continuing the theme of trying to keep you indoors, the Art Car Museum is a weird one. Nicknamed the “Garage Mahal”, this place features some of the most…we’ll call them intersting cars you’ll ever see. Admission is free, so go check it out.
Bars and Restaurants
Double your travel with a culinary trip to Madrid in this newly minted restaurant. With dishes ranging from squid ink mac & cheese to ice cream cone foie gras, this place is sure to be an experience. The interior design may be of the coolest I have ever seen.
Crispy or Grilled (Food Truck)
Food trucks are the move in Houston. Crispy or Grilled is the highest rated in the city. Their chicken can be found in tacos, sandwiches and fries and honestly they all look pretty incredible. You can find where they are parked on their Facebook page.
Fat Cat Creamery
From my extensive research I have discovered that Houston seems to be a ice cream hotbed…or should we call it a cold bed? Fat Cat Creamy has some intersting flavors like a Milk Chocolate Stout and the Waterloo Strawberry Buttermilk. Count me in.
