Leading the Way
Nani regained the team lead in goals scored this season with his tenth finish of the year on Saturday against LAFC. The City captain now holds the team lead in goals and assists, adding eight assists to his ten finishes in 2019. Nani is on pace to be the first City player in Club history to finish the season as the team-leader in both goals and assists in a season.
Back Like He Never Left
Midfielder Cristian Higuita found himself involved in both the Lions’ finishes this past Saturday against LAFC in his first start since returning from injury. Higuita played the ball in behind to Nani on the ensuing kickoff for the Lions’ first goal of the evening before earning a secondary assist on Benji Michel’s goal seven minutes later. City’s all-time appearance leader now sits at 101 caps in his MLS career with 82 starts, six goals and eight assists to his league resume.
Defending the Fortress
The Lions hold an unbeaten record against Saturday’s opposition in the City Beautiful with a 2-0-3 record against the Revs all-time at home and a +7 goal differential. The last time the two met in Orlando resulted in a 3-3 draw on August 4 of last year. Dom Dwyer found the back of the net in that match, along with former Lions Amro Tarek and Scott Sutter. City leveled late, with Sutter finding the back of the net in the third minute of stoppage to split the points between the two sides.
New Faces, Big Impacts
Two City newcomers combined for the Lions’ second finish of the evening last Saturday in forward Benji Michel and defender Ruan. The goal served as the third for Michel this season after becoming the first Lions’ Homegrown to score a goal for the First Team earlier this year. Ruan registered the assist on the finish, his fifth of the season. The City defender’s five assists trails only Nani on the squad.
