By The Numbers: Climbing The All-Time Assist Ladder

By The Numbers: Climbing The All-Time Assist Ladder

3 – Wins in Parley

Orlando’s 1-0 victory over Vancouver ensured the Lions remained unbeaten wearing Parley jerseys. City defeated New York City FC 2-1 at Yankee Stadium in the Parley kits’ debut game in 2017, then overcame a late comeback attempt to top San Jose 3-2 in last year’s game. With Seattle Sounders’ loss at LAFC on Sunday night, Orlando City are the only team in MLS to go 3-0-0 wearing the Parley jerseys.

4 in 3 – Nani’s run

Nani redirected a Sacha Kljestan shot into the back of the net for Saturday’s late winner, giving the former Manchester United man four goals in three games. He is the first Lion to score in three consecutive games since Dom Dwyer did it from July 29-August 12, 2018, and the first to bag four in three since Dwyer’s remarkable run in March and April of last season.

6 – 4 in 3 players

Nani is in elite company when it comes to his run—only five other players in MLS have scored four goals in three games this season, and the list is virtually all MVP frontrunners: LAFC’s Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi, LA Galaxy’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, DC United’s Wayne Rooney, and Toronto FC’s Jozy Altidore.

91 – Kljestan Assists

Sacha Kljestan might not have expected his 91st career MLS assist to come from a shot on goal, but he seemed happy enough to take it after the game. Kljestan’s assist on Nani’s goal tied Cobi Jones for 8th all-time in MLS, but Kljestan’s feat is perhaps more impressive—he managed it in 57 fewer games than Jones needed to reach the mark. Kljestan remains the active career assist leader in the league.

219 – Goalless streak

Orlando City had some success at Yankee Stadium early in their tenure, but have come up dry lately. The Lions’ last goal in the Bronx came in that 2017 Earth Day weekend victory, and they’ve gone 219 minutes since their last goal at the House that Ruth Built. Orlando did snap a 458-minute overall goalless streak against NYCFC in this season’s home opener with Chris Mueller’s free kick goal.

2 – Potential NY wins

Orlando City will be looking to defeat both New York teams away for the first time in club history. Orlando knocked off the New York Red Bulls 1-0 on March 23 through a 72nd minute Kljestan goal.
