By The Numbers: Streaking Star

5 – Dom’s Record Streak

Star striker Dom Dwyer has started the season with a goal contribution (at least one goal or assist) in each of Orlando City’s first five games. He is the only player in MLS with a five-game goal contribution streak this season; Houston’s Mauro Manotas is the only other player with four. The streak is also Dwyer’s personal MLS record; he had recorded a four-game goal contribution run three previous times, including with Orlando City from March 31-April 21 of last year.

13 – New Faces

Benji Michel became the 13th player to debut for Orlando City this season when he entered for Nani in the 77th minute on Sunday night. The 13 debuts is the second-most in a month in club history, only behind the inaugural month of March 2015. Michel was also the third player to make his professional debut for the Lions after Kamal Miller and Santiago Patiño, as well as the third to appear for the first time after time in the Orlando City academy after Patiño and Tommy Redding.

9 – The 3 Assist Club

Nani is tied with eight other players for the MLS lead in assists with three. Half of those eight players—Carlos Vela, Darwin Quintero, Alberth Elis, and Diego Valeri—are past MLS All-Stars. The list also includes former Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, 2016 MLS Newcomer of the Year Nicolas Lodeiro, and 2018 CCL Golden Boot winner Jonathan Osorio. DC United midfielder Junior Moreno is the final entrant.

18 – Big Stops

Brian Rowe remains atop the saves leaderboard in MLS with 18. Rowe is tied with reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year runner-up Stefan Frei of the Seattle Sounders.

1.18 – Best xG Margin

Orlando City deserved three points from Sunday’s hard-fought loss to DC United from at least one advanced statistic. Opta’s expected goals metric (xG), which assigns a value from 0 to 1 for every shot taken by a team in a game, had Orlando City at 1.73 expected goals on the night, compared to just 0.55 for DC United. Rooney’s controversial free kick goal had a 0.01 xG value. The 1.18 margin was the biggest in any game for Orlando City this season.

2.5 – PPG vs. Colorado

Orlando City has seen more success against this week’s opponent than any other club in franchise history. Orlando are 3-0-1 in four games against the Rapids, with a 0-0 draw in 2016 the only non-victory. That still gives the Lions a club record 2.5 points per game in the series. Colorado are one of three clubs against which Orlando are unbeaten, along with San Jose and Real Salt Lake.

296 – Shutout Streak

From 2015 to 2018, Orlando City recorded a 296-minute shutout streak against Colorado, their longest such streak against any opponent in franchise history. Dominique Badji ended the remarkable run with a goal in the 26th minute of last year’s game, but the Lions would go on to win the game anyway thanks to a golazo from Cristian Higuita and a penalty kick from Yoshimar Yotun.

7 – Killer Kamara

Rapids striker Kei Kamara has been one of Orlando City’s boogeymen over the last four years, putting seven goals past Lions keepers. Kamara has scored against Orlando for three different clubs (Columbus, New England, Vancouver) and recorded a hat trick against the Lions for the Revs in late 2017.
