PREVIEW: Orlando City Returns Home to Face D.C. United

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 29, 2019) - Orlando City SC (1-1-2, 5 points) returns to Orlando City Stadium on Sunday, March 31 to face D.C. United (2-0-1, 7 points). Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET at Orlando City Stadium.

The match will be nationally televised on FS1, while also being broadcast on 96.9 The Game in English and La Nueva 990 AM in Spanish.

“I think the level of commitment was excellent, the chance creation was very good. I think we made it very difficult for Red Bull to get any clear cut opportunities,” Head Coach James O’Connor said. “We were pleased with that performance and now we move on and we have a very difficult match against D.C. which we’re all looking forward to.”

City is fresh off its first victory of the 2019 season after a 1-0 win at the New York Red Bulls this past Saturday. Sacha Kljestan scored the lone goal of the match in the 73rd minute, burying a finish into the corner of the net. Joao Moutinho registered his first-career assist on the goal, having sent in the cross that Kljestan eventually got his foot on for the game-winner.

Dom Dwyer leads the Lions with two goals in 2019 and is tied with Nani for the team lead in assists, each totaling two thus far this season. Goalkeeper Brian Rowe holds the league lead in saves with 17 in the first four games of this year’s campaign.

D.C. United will be coming off a week off, their last game resulting in a 5-0 victory over Real Salt Lake in the nation’s capital. Wayne Rooney registered the first hat-trick of his MLS career while Lucas Rodriguez and Ulises Segura each added a goal on the evening with RSL forced to play down a man after a red card was issued.

Rooney leads D.C. with those three goals this season and now sits in a tie with six other players for the league lead. Junior Moreno leads D.C. United with three assists, also tied for the league lead with two other players.

Sunday’s contest will be the first of two between the Clubs this season. The Lions will travel to Audi Field on Wednesday, June 26.
