The Lions had 58% possession against the team that led MLS in possession last season. Orlando also had 1.9 xG in the game compared to just 1.17 xG for New York.



One Assist for Dom Dwyer 


The Lions’ striker notched an assist on Tesho Akindele's tying goal on Saturday. Dwyer scored 13 goals last season but did not record a single assist. It was his first helper in a game since September 27, 2017 in a 6-1 win against New England. Dwyer had gone 29 appearances without an assist before Saturday.



Eight Debuts 


Tesho Akindele, Sebas Mendez, Danilo Acosta, Kyle Smith, Kamal Miller, Alex De John, Brian Rowe, and Nani all made their competitive debuts for Orlando City. Kamal Miller was also making his professional debut. De John, Mendez, Smith, and Nani were all making their MLS debuts. All but Smith were playing professional soccer in the United States for the first time.

Orlando City are 2-2-0 all-time in their first away game of the season. Orlando won their first away game in 2015 (1-0 at Houston, OG by HOU GK Tyler Deric) and 2016 (1-0 at NYCFC, Cyle Larin 7’ goal).

Sacha Kljestan is 1 assist away from tying Cobi Jones for 8th in MLS history with 91. Jones played 64 more MLS games than Kljestan has to date (306 to 242). Kljestan is the active career assist leader in MLS.
