Orlando City Loses to Seattle

ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 17, 2018) – Orlando City SC (7-21-4, 25 points) dropped its penultimate home match to the Seattle Sounders FC (16-11-5, 53 points) 2-1 on Wednesday at Orlando City Stadium.

“Obviously first half started really poorly. Give away two really poor goals. Second half I felt we came at them a little bit, had a little bit more energy. I thought we started to cause them a few more problems, have more pressure in their half,” Lions head coach James O’Connor said. “When we get the goal we’re hopeful that we’re going to go on and get something from the game. We needed to get more numbers in the box as the ball has gone wide. It’s indicative of how the season has gone for us with the type of goals that we’ve given away so early on and made it really difficult for ourselves to get back into the game.”

Adam Grinwis made his second consecutive start in goal. Will Johnson lined up at left back alongside Lamine Sane, Shane O’Neill and Scott Sutter. Carlos Ascues and Uri Rosell manned the defensive midfield behind Cristian Higuita, Sacha Kljestan with the captain’s armband and Chris Mueller. Dom Dwyer was the lone striker.

Victor Rodriguez chipped the opening goal in the third minute. Handwalla Bwana made it 2-0 in the 13th.

The Lions got on the board in the 57th minute when Sutter curled it in for Dwyer to tap home.

City will host Columbus Crew SC on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m. ET in the 2018 home finale.
