City takes a break from MLS regular season play and now looks towards the Open Cup Quarterfinal meeting on Wednesday with the Philadelphia Union. City is coming off a win over D.C. After a slow start to life with the Philadelphia Union, Czech Republic International Borek Dockal has turned his season around. The midfielder now leads the team with five goals and six assists. On the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Andre Blake ranks third in MLS with 70 saves.
Philadelphia had a slow start to 2018 but have since moved up the standings in MLS regular season play. Meanwhile, in U.S. Open Cup play the Union have looked strong disposing of the Richmond Kickers 5-0 in the fourth round and knocking out the New York Red Bulls 2-1 in the fifth round to reach the Quarterfinals. The Union owns an all-time record of 17-8 in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play and have reached the final twice (both times losing). At home this season, The Union are 7-3-2 including their two Open Cup wins.
This will be City’s first-ever meeting with the Philadelphia Union in the Open Cup. Previously this season, City topped Philadelphia on the road 2-0 to hand the Union their first loss at home in 2018. City has three wins in their last four matches with Philadelphia, dating back to 2016.
