Key Additions
Let’s just say the whole team since LAFC is an expansion side. Okay, no we’ll focus in a little bit more than that. There have been a few key pieces that have gotten the new side rolling this year. For starters, Carlos Vela (who should be back from the World Cup) has seven goals for the squad and Diego Rossi has five goals and six assists. More recently LAFC added Adama Diomande and well, just keep reading.
Who’s Hot
LAFC might have the hottest man in all of Major League Soccer right now. The previously mentioned Adama Diomande, also known as Dio, took home the June Player of the Month award. When you look at his stats, that’s no surprise. Through six appearances (387 minutes), the striker has netted seven times and has added two assists. It doesn’t get much hotter than that.
Team Form
Through 17 games in 2018, LAFC is exceeding the usual expansion team expectations. LA currently sits in third in the Western Conference on 31 points. Another number that really stands out for LAFC is that they have the second best ‘goals for’ in the league with 37 goals. Translation, our boys will have to be at their best in the back to prevent LAFC netting a few.
Head-To-Head
Well, the series stands at 0-0-0 since both sides have never met. This will be City’s first visit to meet the 2018 expansion squad. Kickoff has been moved to 11:00 p.m. ET due to extreme heat forecasts during the day.
