Orlando City’s 6-1 dominance over the New England Revolution had just about everything in it. Goals, cards, purple smoke and some delighted fans leaving the stadium after the dominant win at Orlando City Stadium. Within the game itself, multiple firsts were recorded by Orlando City players and the team as a whole. Here’s just a few of them:
Antonio Nocerino and Yoshi Yotun Score Their First in Purple
It’s been a long time coming, but Nocerino finally managed to grab a goal in an Orlando City jersey, and in front of the home faithful at that. In his almost two years with the Lions, the Italian has come oh so close multiple times, but this time he finally was able to get a touch on a ball from Yoshi Yotun and notched his first goal for Orlando.
Yotun’s goal, which was the last scored by the Lions on the night, was a fantastic hit from outside the box, straight to the far post. Yoshi also grabbed two assists on the evening, putting him at three on the season, through only seven games played.
First MLS Assist for Richie Laryea
Since he was drafted in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, Richie Laryea has shown vast improvement with his time playing in USL with Orlando City B. Now, he’s getting opportunities with the MLS side and finally was able to get an assist on the board, earning it on Yotun’s strike in the 90th minute. The sky’s the limit for Laryea’s development and getting an assist is just a taste of what’s to come in his future.
Dwyer Gets His First At Home
Coming off his brace in Atlanta, it was only a matter of time before Dwyer scored his first at home. At times during the game, it looked like that night wouldn’t be the one to do it. He had a chance in the 52nd minute with a one-on-one shot that was blocked and two chances in the 77th minute that he just couldn’t finish, but Kaka was able to for the fourth goal of the game. Finally, Dwyer was able to score his long-awaited goal in the 84th minute after a wild sequence of events. He took a pass from Cyle Larin and absolutely blasted it into the top right corner of the net and joyfully slid on his knees towards the fans in celebration. That was a goal the Orlando faithful have been waiting for, and boy was it worth it.
First Time Orlando Has Scored Six Goals in a Match
It was an offensive explosion against the Revolution, one that Orlando hasn’t seen in MLS play. The Lions had previously scored five goals in a game, twice in fact, but never six. The goal scored by Yoshi Yotun will mark the most goals scored by Orlando in an MLS match in their history. The six goals also mark the most goals ever scored by a home team in Orlando City Stadium.
