The Matildas Top Brazil for the Third Time Running

matildas third straight win over brazil

In front of a record crowd of 16,829, the Westfield Matildas came from a goal down to lead 3-1 late on, before the visitors set up a grandstand finish with a late penalty by Marta.
Kerr was the star of the show, scoring two ā€“ and producing a back-flip celebration ā€“ and having a big hand in the other goal to Caitlin Foord.

Just like they did in the recent Tournament of Nations, Brazil went on the front foot early, taking a lead inside the first minute. The early goal didnā€™t faze the Westfield Matildas and the immediately imposed themselves on the contest, with Sam Kerr, Hayley Raso and Emily van Egmond looking dangerous.

Sky Blue FC's Sam Kerr showed her threatening ability again early in the second half, helping substitute Caitlin Foord give Australia the lead.

Brazil was tired under Aussie pressure and Kerr scored her second of the match just after the hour mark. A late penalty drawn and converted from Marta narrowed the deficit to give the Brazilians hope but Australia held firm to make it three wins in a row against Brazil for the first time ever.

The win on Tuesday was the first time ever the Aussies have won five successive games and the side is now eight games unbeaten.
