Cyle Larin Breaks All-Time City Scoring Record

Orlando City striker Cyle Larin made history on Saturday. His goal in the 19th minute against D.C United, marked his 43rd goal in an Orlando City uniform, making him the all-time leading goal scorer for the Lions over all eras and across all competitions.

Kevin Molino led the team with 42 goals over his six years with Orlando, but Larin scored his 43rd in his 85th career game across all competitions. Molino scored his goals over 144 games, making Larin the more efficient scorer over his professional career. Larin scored all but one of his goals in MLS play, while Molino scored 30 of his in USL from 2011-2014.

To put it in a bigger perspective, Larin has scored a goal almost every two games he has played in and has reached the milestone after only three years as a professional. Molino, who wasn’t primarily a goal scorer until the 2014 season, had six years to complete the feat. Considering Larin beat the record in half the time that it took Molino, speaks to just how good Larin has been since he was picked by Orlando in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

With one milestone out of the way, Larin now has more personal accolade to strive for in the near future. Already the youngest to score 40 goals in MLS history, the Canadian now will look to be the youngest to score 50 goals in the league. The feat has only been achieved by two others before the age of 25, meaning only eight more goals in MLS play will set him apart in MLS history.

With six games remaining on the season, Larin has the potential to continue to add to his goal scoring tally and break some more Lions records in the process.
