OCB 12-Game Unbeaten Run Snapped Against Richmond

OCB Richmond

ORLANDO, Fla. (September 7, 2017) – In the second match of a two-game homestand, Orlando City B (8-7-12, 36 points) fell 2-0 to the Richmond Kickers (6-13-8, 26 points) Thursday at Orlando City Stadium. The loss snaps OCB’s Club record 12-game unbeaten run.

“It’s about how can we rebound from this quickly, because we’ve obviously been on a great run. At some point it was going to come to end. I was hoping it wasn’t going to come to an end but it’s obviously done that today,“ OCB head coach Anthony Pulis said. “The biggest disappointment for me is the level of performance. We saw a little bit of a reaction for the last 30 where we moved the ball a little bit quicker and we looked like we might create some chances.”

First Teamers Conor Donovan, Kevin Alston and Hadji Barry were in the starting XI. First Team Homegrown goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar was in the 18-man lineup.

Richmond opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Mikey Minutillo headed Mallan Roberts’ delivery into the bottom right corner. Then in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, Sunny Jane made it 2-0 with a strike into the top left corner.

OCB turned up the pressure in the second half with threatening shots from Albert Dikwa and Jordan Schweitzer. Zach Ellis-Hayden forced Richmond goalkeeper Travis Worra into an excellent save in the 70th minute.

The loss snaps Orlando City B’s Club record 12-game unbeaten run, which beat its own Club record nine-game unbeaten run set from June to August 2016. The run began on June 23 with a 1-0 win at Rochester and saw OCB earn a stoppage-time equalizer against Tampa Bay, draw then-first-place Charlotte before earning a 3-0 win at first-place Louisville.

The match was the first leg of an Orlando City Stadium doubleheader with Orlando Pride after Hurricane Irma forced both matches to be rescheduled. Additionally, the match was paused in the 31st and 76th minutes for hydration breaks due to the heat and humidity.

OCB travels to Marshall Wireless Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 16, to take on Saint Louis FC. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. The Lions then return to Orlando City Stadium to host the Charleston Battery on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
