City Striking Duo Showing It's Scoring Potential

City Striking Duo

One positive to take away from Saturday night’s match against Montreal was Cyle Larin getting back on the scoresheet. In their push for playoff qualification, Orlando City will need that type of production from Larin and Dom Dwyer heading into the final stretch of the season. Now, as Dwyer’s first full week of training lies ahead, the striking duo will have a chance to improve their chemistry up top.

“I think they’re both enjoying playing with each other,” City head coach Jason Kreis said about Larin and Dwyer post-game. “They’re both hard-working players, they’re both players that want to get in front of the goal.”

There were some bright moments between the two strikers in the match against Montreal. Dwyer and Larin’s combination play looked promising, and Larin exhibited his willingness to run and pressure defenders on his goal.

“Cyle is a good player and obviously we had a couple of chances, but it didn’t fall for us
tonight,” Dwyer said after the loss on Saturday night. “We need to keep working hard, we have time, we keep having training sessions together. We’re learning but it will come through,” he explained. “I wouldn’t say we’re too similar. We are still learning, but it’s been only a week.”

Time and repetitions together on the training ground will improve their understanding of each other’s movement, skillsets, and tendencies on the pitch. No doubt the two forwards have some similarities in their playing styles; with the right approach in training, patience, and hard work, their chemistry should only improve and scoring chances will come.
