Orlando City plays its second of three consecutive road matches against the Montreal Impact. The match will be played at the Stade Saputo on Saturday, August 5th at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Here is a breakdown of Orlando City’s next opponent:
The Impact are coming off a 4-0 road defeat to the New York Red Bulls this past weekend. Before that, Montreal were beaten by FC Dallas in their home stadium by a score of 2-1. Since their draw at Orlando City Stadium, the Impact have picked up two wins and lost four matches.
Ignacio Piatti is the Impact’s danger man. The Argentinian leads his team in goals and assists this season; he scored twice and had an assist last time out against the Lions. He is currently in Chicago representing Montreal at the MLS All-Star Game --and deservedly so. Piatti is the player Orlando City will have to contain in order to limit the Impact’s scoring chances.
Scoring goals has not been the Impact’s problem this season, it’s the other side of the field which has hurt them.
Montreal has only registered three shutouts in 2017 and goalkeeper Evan Bush has averaged 1.68 goals against per game; an average ranking among the worst in MLS. Conceding has been Montreal’s weakness all season long -- a weakness that Dom Dwyer and the Lions attack will be looking to exploit on Saturday.
Orlando City and Montreal played to a dramatic 3-3 draw earlier this summer. The Lions got off to a strong start but Ignacio Piatti wreaked havoc on the City back line to give his team a 3-2 lead heading into second half stoppage time. Jonathan Spector’s towering header off a corner kick salvaged a point for Orlando City in what was the team’s highest scoring match of the season.
