Independent Panel Rescinds Rafael Ramos Red Card

Ramos Red

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 7, 2017) – The Independent Panel has unanimously rescinded the red card issued to Orlando City SC defender Rafael Ramos on Sunday, June 4, against the Chicago Fire (VIDEO). Ramos will not be fined and will be available for selection for City’s next regular season match on Saturday, June 17, against the Montreal Impact.

In the 26th minute of his 2017 season debut, Ramos was sent off following a collision with Fire defender Brandon Vincent in which both players were going for a 50/50 ball. The Lions battled for a scoreless draw at home despite being later reduced to nine men.

Each Club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including playoffs. Since Orlando’s appeal was successful, the team maintains two unsuccessful appeals for any future dismissals in the 2017 season.

The three-person Independent Panel consists of one representative from the United States Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association, and one representative from the Professional Referee Organization.
