Know Your Opponent: San Jose

KTE SJ

Orlando City will play another midweek match this week as they head to the West Coast to face the San Jose Earthquakes. After a weekend draw against Sporting Kansas City, the Lions will look to perform well on the road against another Western Conference opponent. Here is everything you need to know about the San Jose Earthquakes:

Recent Matches

The Quakes lost their most recent match against the Colorado Rapids 3-0, but they are 2-2-1 in their last five matches. San Jose has had a mixed record throughout the season, but have yet to lose a match at home.

Who’s Hot

Chris Wondolowski had two goals in the team’s recent 3-0 victory over the Portland Timbers. As the team’s top goal-scorer, he’s found four goals in eleven matches (as well as five assists). Overall, he has been involved in nine out of the twelve goals scored by the Quakes in eleven matches. But the offense hasn’t proven that they can remain consistent, shutting out an opponent one week and being shut out the next.

Who’s Not

The defense for San Jose has also been hot and cold this season. They’ve earned four clean sheets on the season, but the Rapids found the back of the net three times in their weekend match against the Quakes. Considering the Rapids aren’t exactly known for their attacking game, this could spell trouble for San Jose as Cyle Larin comes off a game against Sporting Kansas City where he found his seventh goal in ten matches.

Head-To-Head

San Jose and Orlando have played each other twice in the two years since Orlando City joined MLS. Both matches ended in draws-- a 1-1 draw in 2015, and a 2-2 draw in 2016. Orlando City will look to change the narrative when they face off against San Jose on Wednesday night.

Orlando City will face off against San Jose on Wednesday, May 17th at 10:30pm. The match will be available on MLS Live and TV27 (for the local Orlando audience).
