Orlando City Signs Swiss Right Back Scott Sutter

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 3, 2017) - Orlando City SC signs Swiss right back Scott Sutter, pending receipt of International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa. 

“We are very happy to have secured Scott’s signature.  He has great European and International experience that will will strengthen our defensive core this season."

Sutter, 30, joins the Lions from Swiss Super League side BSC Young Boys, where he has played since 2009. In 2016-17, Sutter made 32 appearances for Young Boys, scoring one goal and two assists in the Swiss Super League and UEFA Champions and Europa leagues. 

Sutter originally moved to Switzerland from his native England at age 16 to play with Grasshoppers Zurich. When he was 18 years old, he made his first of 59 appearances with Grasshopper before moving to Young Boys. Sutter, whose father is Swiss, has also made two appearances for the Switzerland national team. 

Sutter will occupy an international slot on the Lions roster.

UPDATE: June 10, 2020 - Major League Soccer announced it will restart the 2020 season with all 26 MLS clubs competing in the MLS is Back Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida beginning July 8. Upon completion of the tournament, MLS plans to continue its regular season with a revised schedule in home markets. The revised schedule may see certain matches from the original 2020 MLS regular season schedule being cancelled or rescheduled. The final number of matches and the schedule for the remainder of the 2020 MLS regular season and related ticket policies will be announced in the coming weeks.
