Alex Morgan: “This Team is Something Special”

In Orlando Pride’s historic home opener, Captain Alex Morgan led her team to a 3-1 victory over the Houston Dash. Voted the player of the match, Morgan kept up the Pride’s attacking game, scoring the third goal of the night in the 61st minute off an assist from defender Steph Catley.

“Being up 2-0, I felt like everything was going our way after those two goals and the rhythm kind of picked up and our tempo picked up,” Morgan said after the game. “We felt a lot more confident attacking so to get that third goal really solidified the win for us and although they got a goal back, I feel like scoring three goals in front of this crowd is something I’ll always remember.”

The game was a historic landmark in what has been an exciting journey for the Orlando Pride. Morgan has been with the team since the beginning, coming on as one of the original signings for the squad. “I knew it was going to be exciting, but at the same time challenging, and it’s been exactly that,” Morgan said. “This team is something special and everyone just trusts in each other and it’s gone so much better than anticipated.”

Morgan and her teammates will travel next weekend for another away game against the Chicago Red Stars. But for now, they’ll enjoy the home win and the three points. “To get the first win in our first home game,” Morgan said with a smile. “You can’t ask for more.”
