Orlando City Looks to Build Off Hot Start

Hot STart

Coming into Orlando City’s second season, aspirations were high. After barely missing the playoffs in their inaugural season last year, the Lions have their sights set making it into the tournament this season while competing for the Supporters Shield. One of the things that hurt last year was Orlando City’s slow start. With over 20 new players it took some time for players and coaches to find their rhythm. The 2016 season, however, has been a different story.

With team leader and captain Kaká out for three games, Orlando City made strong impressions against considerable teams, earning five points from a 1-0-2 start. With the return of Kaká and a 4-1 victory over the defending champions Portland Timbers, the Lions now sit atop the Eastern Conference with eight points.

Head Coach Adrian Heath knows that the team’s fast start is significant and nothing to scoff at. “It’s nice to get 8 points after four games, I always talk about two points per game and that’s what all clubs look for. For us to be where we are, top of the east, I’m delighted with that.”

After five weeks Orlando City is now the only remaining undefeated team in the conference. Kaká acknowledged this important feat. “It’s amazing we’re on top of the league and conference today“. In an impressive game over Portland, Kaká knows what the momentum can do for the team, “It gives us confidence for the next game and three more points.”

Midfielder Christian Higuita agrees this momentum going forward will be important for the team. “I’m very happy about the result and all the teamwork that has been going. It was a great game against a tough opponent and we need to carry on with this form moving forward with the season.”
