Lions Aim for Another Piece of Expansion History on Sunday

Winning Streak Story

With only a few days remaining before the Lions take the pitch in their final game of the regular season, the Lions have one main focus — winning the match. As Orlando City took to the training field Friday morning, there was a strong sense of confidence flooding the pitch. Working on their finishing drills, players like Cyle Larin and Brek Shea were making sure they were on target and scoring consistently. One thing is for certain, The Lions want to beat Philadelphia, and become one of the winningest expansion teams in MLS history.

“We need to go out and win the game,” stressed Lions’ Head Coach Adrian Heath. “We are going to try and win this game so we can finish the season on a six-game winning streak.” Going out on a six-game winning streak will be a fantastic way to end the regular season for the Lions. No expansion team has ever had a six-game winning streak in a season. A victory on Sunday will make them one of the winningest expansion franchise, which is a tremendous feat, and in line with Orlando City’s credo, Defy Expectations.

“It is massive,” asserted Lions Central Defender Seb Hines. “We have given ourselves a chance, and that was our goal. We put ourselves in a good position, and it is a massive accomplishment to win six games down the stretch. We can leave the season with our heads held high.”

There is still hope that Orlando City will make the playoffs this season. The Lions would need to make up an eight goal differential on Sunday which is a difficult challenge. Orlando City’s first goal this weekend is to win the game, however if they can set themselves up to score six or seven goals, they will certainly give it their all.
