Orlando City U-23s to Hold Open Tryouts on April 19

PDL Tryouts

ORLANDO – April 9, 2015 – The Orlando City U-23s will hold open tryouts for the 2015 season the Club announced today, providing local players with an opportunity to be evaluated by the Lions’ coaching staff.
Set to take place at the University of Central Florida (UCF), the tryouts will occur on Sunday, April 19. Players interested in attending can register by clicking here.

“We are looking forward to the U-23s season and open tryouts,” said Orlando City U-23s head coach Darren Powell. “We are excited to see the level of players at the tryouts and encourage anyone interested in potentially joining us this summer to attend.”

The U-23s are a crucial component of the Orlando City developmental pyramid, serving as a direct avenue to City’s first team. Since arriving to Orlando in 2010, three players have graduated into the professional team after stellar performances with the U-23s.

In 2014, the U-23s season was highlighted by a historic run in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup that saw the young Lions defeat Charleston Battery of USL in an epic penalty-kick shootout, advancing to the fifth round of the nation’s oldest tournament for a match-up against the Portland Timbers. The Lions put forth a valiant effort, but ultimately fell 3-0 to the Major League Soccer (MLS) side.
