This week the Orlando City Foundation will begin highlighting each of their 10 OCPS Elementary Schools participating in our Spring Community Programs.
The Chickasaw Elementary Warriors practice their skills Mondays and Wednesdays after school for 90 minutes. Their coach, Erika Membreno is certified via the NSCAA and has a very special group on her hands. During their opening weeks, Chickasaw learned soccer mechanics like proper receiving and passing techniques. The students showed real promise and flashes of brilliance while learning skill moves like the Cruyff turn and pull-back. Developing foot-eye coordination, balance, and endurance are also positives taken from the program.
Erika is confident that her players have the skills to continue developing each part of their game. The competition is positive yet ferverous at times, and each week the students most enjoy the full-field scrimmages. When the final whistle blows at 5pm after a heated game, you can hear and see how badly these Warriors want to continue playing.
