Lions Recognized at City Council Meeting

Lions Recognized by City Council

The 2013 Championship celebration continued Monday afternoon as Orlando City SC players attended a City Council Meeting at City Hall in downtown Orlando, with the club receiving special accolades at the beginning of the session. The recognition began right at 2 p.m., with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer recognizing the players for their successes in 2013.

Assistant Coach Ian Fuller and players Rob Valentino, Luke Boden, Anthony Pulis, Bryan Burke and Jamie Watson were all in attendance- accepting accolades from Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the City Commissioners.

“We’re honored to have the Lions here today in our chambers,” said Mayor Dyer. “They have recently completed another Championship-winning season and we are proud to call them our home town team.”

Watson spoke on behalf of the club to receive the recognition, saying the support from the City of Orlando and the fans made the Championship that much more special.

"Thank you to the City for all of the support," said Watson. "And thank you to the Commissioners and Mayor Dyer for all of the support throughout these past three seasons. It has made everything that much more special.”

After the proceedings, the City Commissioners and Dyer received a “Go City” scarf (pictured) in a photo opportunity, which they proudly wore to celebrate the Championship-winning Lions.
