In his rookie season, Donovan appeared in four matches with City prior to suffering a torn, left ACL injury when facing the Philadelphia Union on Aug. 8.
On May 2, he debuted for the Lions in the match against Brazilian side Ponte Preta, playing 90 minutes. On June 17, he played 102 minutes in the dramatic victory over the Charleston Battery in the U.S. Open Cup. On July 15, he played the second half in the 3-1 win over English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion. On Aug. 8, Donovan made his MLS debut against the Philadelphia Union but unfortunately had to leave the field 17 minutes into the game due to a left ACL injury.
