Two Golden Boot Contenders Go Toe-To-Toe in Sunday’s Matchup

Larin Villa

Orlando City will face off against New York City FC (NYCFC) on Sunday, August 28th as the last match in the MLS Heineken Rivalry Week. This matchup already has a lot of heated elements-- including the fact that Orlando City Head Coach Jason Kreis worked as the NYCFC head coach for their inaugural season.

But there is another underlying competition in this match, and that is between NYCFC Forward David Villa and Orlando City Forward Cyle Larin. Both are in the race for the MLS Golden Boot, and while Villa currently holds a three goal lead over Larin, both players will be looking to prove themselves the best when they take to the pitch.

This season, Villa has scored 16 goals to Larin’s 13. But Larin has been much more efficient, taking 62 shots to Villa’s 131. And Larin always has the upper hand when he is playing at home.

Sunday’s match will have huge playoff implications for the teams, as NYCFC looks to regain first place in the Eastern Conference and Orlando City looks for the three points necessary to overtake D.C United for the last slot in the playoffs. While NYCFC may have the upperhand in points, they’ve never been very good taking on the Orlando City home crowds.

This match will kickoff on Sunday, August 28th at 7:30pm at Camping World Stadium. Don’t miss any of the action.
