Orlando City Soccer Club hosted students and schools from Central Florida for the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee, through the Orlando Regional Spelling Bee at Exploria Stadium on Saturday, February 5th. The students who competed progressed from school bees to district bees, and finally to the Orlando Regional Bee.
The Bee went 22 rounds and featured 47 spellers competing from 7 Central Florida counties. The Champion and Runner-Up are listed below:
Champion
Aaron Kuebler
Grade 6, from St. Luke's Lutheran School in Seminole County, FL
Won the following:
- From Rasmussen University, a gift pack featuring an iPad Mini and Apple Pencil
- A six-night stay at the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee’s official hotel, courtesy of Orlando City Soccer Club
Runner-Up
Ekansh Rastogi
Grade 8, from Markham Woods Middle School in Seminole County, FL
Won the following:
- From Rasmussen University, a gift pack featuring Apple Airpods and a $200 Amazon gift card
- A six-night stay at the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee’s official hotel, courtesy of Orlando City Soccer Club
The champion and runner-up both also won the following:
- The Samuel Louis Sugarman Award, a 2022 U.S. Mint Proof Set donated by Mr. Jay Sugarman in honor of his father
