Pro Academy Takes Five Wins Over Weekend

Academy Update 11/19

The Orlando City Pro Academy followed up a great weekend with a nearly perfect one.

Orlando City took five of six matches against Clearwater Chargers this past Saturday. It started with two closely contested matches for the U-12s. One team earned a 4-3 win before the other played to a 0-0 draw.

That was followed up by the U-13 Development Academy taking a decisive 4-1 win. Pro Academy Director David Longwell said the boys had “good shows of style” at the weekend and continue to show technical improvement and cohesiveness. The U-14s earned a 2-1 win

The U-15/16s built off last week’s 4-0 win over IMG Academy with a 2-0 win over Clearwater. Jose Aldaco put the Lions on the board in the 11th minute and they took that lead into halftime. Jaime Lopez scored just five minutes after entering the match in the second half.

“I’m pleased with the performance because they did good stuff. They controlled the ball and played very well in their positions and as a team,” Longwell said.

It was the U-18 squad that earned the biggest win, though. The Southeast Division-leading Lions earned their biggest win of the season in a 6-0 final. A tight match saw City take a 1-0 lead into the break after Isaque Cuoto scored in the 11th minute. Cuoto tallied again in the 72nd and Mikael Martins quickly scored two goals in two minutes. Andrew Forth and Landen Haig also scored.

“It was one of the best performances of the season from the way they played,” said Longwell, who is also the U-18 Elite Development Coach. “Clearwater tried to make it difficult but we played excellent soccer. This is a very gratifying win for the entire Club.”
