Orlando Pride Signs Forward Chioma Ubogagu to New Contract

ORLANDO, Fla. (February 16, 2018) - Orlando Pride and forward Chioma Ubogagu have agreed to a new contract ahead of the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.


“We’re delighted to have Chi back this season. She had a good first season with us in 2017 and played an important role for the Club,” Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni said. “We’re looking forward to seeing her grow as a player and member of the Pride this season.”


In her first season with the Pride, Ubogagu proved to be an essential piece of Orlando’s attack, playing in 20 matches, 17 of them starts. Her contract comes following a season in which she scored four goals and tallied four assists, including an assist on the Pride’s first ever goal in Orlando City Stadium on April 22 against Washington.


After a strong 2017 season, Ubogagu received her first call-up to the U.S. Women’s National Team in October.


Prior to joining Orlando, Ubogagu spent the 2016 season with the Houston Dash, where she made 15 appearances, adding one goal and one assist. Her performance during Week 4 gained her the NWSL Player of the Week award, with her goal proving to be the game-winner in Houston’s 2-1 win.


Selected as No. 28 overall pick in the 2015 NWSL College Draft by Sky Blue FC, Ubogagu elected to forgo the NWSL season, instead signing with Arsenal Ladies in her hometown of London. She made a total of 21 appearances for the Gunners, scoring seven goals, before returning to the NWSL.
